Thank you! Yes, thank you for exploring ways to bring joy and hope to our community by giving. In church language, we use the word stewardship because we believe that everything we have and enjoy comes from God. We are entrusted with an abundance of blessings to be good stewards or good managers of God's possessions.
Twenty-first century ministry continues to be tough. We see unprecedented changes, cultural shifts and uncertainty within the greater church. Fewer people attend worship. Fewer people give financially. Fewer people are making their faith a priority. But ironically the spiritual and material needs of our neighbors are even greater. So what is a church like Cornerstone UMC supposed to do? Believe and be generous like God is generous (see 2 Cor. 9). We believe that God will provide and that we can make a difference in greater Jonesboro! We look forward to what God will do through people who faithfully respond to God’s invitation!

…Live out your God-created identity. Live generously and graciously toward others, the way God lives toward you.
(Matthew 5:44)
As Christians we follow the example of Jesus by being generous. Stewardship is a matter of the heart and a measure of our faith and discipleship. Every time someone joins our Cornerstone family, this question is asked: “Will you be loyal to this church, and uphold it by your prayers, your presence, your gifts, your service and your witness?” and then the congregation recommits themselves to that same vow.
Prayers
Do you seek God’s blessing for our Cornerstone community of faith in your prayers? Do you ask for guidance in your daily walk and seek God’s direction for your life? Do you pray for those you know as well as those who have yet to enter your life? Presence Do you attend worship on a weekly basis unless you are sick or out of town? Are you plugged into a Sunday School class or small group where you can be present and grow in your spiritual formation with Christ? Gifts Are you tithing or working towards the tithe in giving to Cornerstone’s annual budgetary needs for ministry? Are you striving to reach beyond the tithe in your other gifts and offerings? Service Do you use your spiritual gifts and your life experience to serve others in the church, community and world? Does your personal use of time reflect this commitment? Witness Do you share your personal witness with others? Do you invite them to worship and other activities to expose them to the life changing experience of Jesus Christ? |
